Title- Confusion, Horror, and Heroism in Oregon Shooting

Topic- Shooting at Oregon Community College

Source- New York Times

Summary- On Thursday, October 1st, a gunman went into a classroom at Umpqua Community College. Ironically, on the schools website it states how the college is a safe and peaceful place to go. The shooter, a 26 year old student, first shot his teacher. By the information some witnesses provided, he was targeting Christians. In the end he killed 9, and injured 9 others.

Reaction- I think it is outrageous how many shootings are going on in America. Its bad when you can’t feel safe to go to class, church, or even the mall. I don’t understand why someone would take so many lives, and injure so many others, just to turn around and cowardly take his own life. This issue is going on at a national scale, but is getting out of hand in America.

World Impact- This specifically talks about the US, but is an issue almost everywhere. Why should someone pull a gun on you because you are a certain religion? Why should someone pull a gun on you because they don’t like a school you attend? There is no reason that people need to feel like they are in danger any time they leave their house. Anywhere with gun violence needs to figure out a way to control it, because we should not be hearing so many stories on the news about the innocent people losing their lives for it.
