Title- The Train that Powers its Station

Topic- London Money Saving Experiment

Source- BBC News

Summary- There is an experiment going on in underground in London. There is a five week system testing how much money is being saved by getting energy from the Tube when it stops. The results of the experiment shows that they can save up to 9 million dollars and for each week of the 5 week test, they created a full megawatt hour which is enough to power a hundred homes for a year.

Reaction- I think this is a creative thing they thought of to save money. With the experiment being pretty successful so far by saving lots, and keeping the tunnel cooler, doing it in other places could help save money there as well. If I was to ever move to a big city like New York, Philadelphia, or Boston, and they adapted the money saving idea too, I could benefit from the money saved.

World Impact- Right now, this is just something going on in London, but it has helped them so much that maybe they’ll let other cities adopt their idea as well. This could start to save many other places money too. I think this is a good method that obviously helps, so I think it would be neat if we saw the method used all over at the places with underground rail systems.
